Surprise Lab's 2025 production, Love and the City, is a brand-new immersive performance. Boldly set in Taipei’s Belle’s nightclub, the venue itself becomes part of the narrative, allowing the audience to truly interact with the actors and environment, exploring the emotions and underlying tensions between the characters. In this production, I served as the Projection Designer, creating LED and screen visuals for the performance. I incorporated elements of Taiwanese visual aesthetics into the design. To me, projection design doesn’t need to be overly flashy—seamlessly blending into the environment and supporting the performance is the most fitting approach for this show.
Kingdom: Creatures of the Digital Realm is a VR-integrated dance creation by artist and dancer Zhao Ting-Ting, supported by Anarchy Dance Theatre.
This work explores themes and imagery related to memory, which is often fragmented and incomplete. That is why we extensively used 3D scanning techniques in the environment design—the broken, eroded edges of the models perfectly embody the feeling we aimed to convey.
This project is the product video for Tehive's Energy Suite, a new energy brand, which was later showcased at an energy exhibition in California. I served as the project manager, coordinating with the client on the production details, and used Unreal Engine's path tracing render to create part of the video animations.
This is a promotional short film series for the pop-up store collaboration between Casetify and Phantaci, consisting of three videos in total. The inspiration for the films comes from the famous singer Jay Chou and his songs, with elements from his work seamlessly integrated into the promotional content. The production utilized the Unreal Engine to create a 1:1 recreation of the actual store's design plans and animation models. Additionally, a significant portion of Taipei's street scenes was imported to provide viewers with an immersive experience.
This is a just-for-fun project. The girl I like said the hamster I made was cute, so I used it to create a set of tarot cards. Maybe I'll complete all 22 cards, or maybe I won't.
This VR film was showcased at the Gogoro Pulse launch event, featuring the use of a Quest 3 headset for hardware. Paired with an 8K 360° video, it delivered a unique test ride experience to the audience.
For film production, I utilized Unreal Engine to create scenes and continuously optimized performance to match the hardware specifications. Additionally, I modified the headset's software and controls to ensure smooth operation during live experiences.
This is my parody VR project inspired by Le Bal de Paris. The idea came from my time working on Le Bal de Paris, where I encountered many strange and amusing guests. In Taiwan, difficult customers are often referred to as "Taiwan Beam Fish," so I made a Taiwanese version of Le Bal de Paris with a Taipei theme, designed to be experienced with a VR headset. This is a just-for-fun project, and I didn't spend much time on the details. The technical director of Le Bal de Paris has seen it and said he really likes it—he won’t be taking me to court.
This project is a specially invited performance at the C-lab exhibition venue in Taiwan. The performance venue is a massive 180° hemispherical dome, with visuals stitched together from 8 projectors. In this project, I utilized Unreal Engine to create the video, producing a high-quality 6K 180° animation with ray tracing enabled. For character production, I employed Character Creator and Live Link for facial capture.
In this project, I utilized the Steam VR system with HTC VIVE Pro headset as the reference point, using the Light House system to track the movement and rotation of the trackers within the scene. By attaching HTC VIVE trackers to the camera lens, the Light House system accurately captured its positional data. The scene design and real-time operation were done using Unreal, while the projection was handled with Resolume Arena.
In this music video, I combined 360-degree real-life photography with the Unreal 5 engine for rendering, and other 3D elements were created using Substance Painter, Cinema4D, and other softwares.
I used 4Dviews technology to faithfully capture the artist's models and their movements, which could then be exported as Alembic files. Additionally, I created numerous materials that could synchronize with changes in the music, enhancing the musicality of the scenes I designed.
This project is a Previz Demo created using Unreal Engine and the DMX system, allowing designers and directors to simulate and communicate the overall visual effects in real-time. The production utilized a GrandMA2 console directly integrated into the Unreal system, enabling real-time lighting design and programming within the scene.
